Gold leaf is made in many places around the world; there are some especially famous centers. Here are a few examples and what makes them special:
Where gold leaf is made
- Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan — This is probably the best-known region in Japan for gold leaf (called Kanazawa‐haku). It produces almost 100% of Japan’s gold leaf, using both traditional and more modern techniques. (Japan Travel)
- Florence (Campi Bisenzio), Italy — The company Giusto Manetti Battiloro makes gold, silver, palladium, and platinum leaf in a plant near Florence, continuing a tradition going back centuries. (Giusto Manetti Battiloro)
- Schwabach, Germany — The Eytzinger factory, established in the 19th century, still manufactures gold leaf in Schwabach. (Eytzinger Blattgold)
